Lessons will be scheduled in order by the date registration is received. Once we have contacted all parties on the waiting list, we will offer up more lessons per family if they are available. We will connect with you to coordinate a time that works based on schedule availability. You will be charged for the lessons once they are scheduled. WaitlistSwim Lessons: Level 1AquaticsIntroduction to Water Skills MUST BE AT LEAST 5 YEARS OLD. Tentative in and around water, uncomfortable submerging head and not yet floating independently. Course Content: Learn to Swim, Level 1helps participants feel comfortable in the water. Skills covered include: bobbing, retrieving objects underwater, front and back glides, back float, tread water using arms and hands, combined arm and leg actions on front and back, and age-appropriate water safety topics. Exit Skills: Enter independently, using either the ladder, steps or side Travel at least 5 yards, bob 5 times then safely exit the water. (Participants can walk, move along the gutter or "swim.") Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to a back float for 5 seconds and recover to a vertical position. (This part of the assessment can be performed with support.) WaitlistSwim Lessons: Level 2AquaticsFundamental Aquatics Skills MUST BE AT LEAST 5 YEARS OLD. Comfortable in water, submerges head and floats independently. Course Content: This level allows students to succeed in the fundamentals of aquatic skills. These skills include: front, jellyfish and tuck floats, roll from front to back and back to front, change direction of travel while swimming on front or back, treading of water, combined arm and leg actions on front and back (working towards moving independently) and age-appropriate water safety topics. Exit Skills: Step from side into chest-deep water, move into a front float for 5 seconds, roll to back, float for 5 seconds then return to vertical position. Move into a back float for 5 seconds, roll to front then recover to a vertical position. Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to the front then continue swimming for 5 body lengths. Swim Lessons: Level 3AquaticsStroke Development Comfortable in deep water (5ft+), swims at least 5 yards on front with a coordinated stroke independently, swims at least 5 yards on back with a coordinated stroke independently. Course Content: Builds on fundamental skills with practice and distance and introduces skills used in deeper water. Skills include: headfirst entries from side in sitting and kneeling positions, bobbing while moving toward safety, rotary breathing, survival float, flutter, dolphin and scissors kick, front crawl, elementary backstroke, and age-appropriate water safety topics. Exit Skills: Jump into deep water from the side, tread or float for 1 minute then proceed to an exit point by swimming the front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 15 yards. Push off in a streamline position then swim front crawl for 15 yards, change position and direction as necessary, then swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards before exiting the water. Course Content: Develops confidence and improves on Level 3 skills. Skills include: headfirst entries from side in compact and stride positions, swim under water, feet first surface dive, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly, flutter and dolphin kicks on back and age-appropriate water safety topics. Exit Skills: Perform a feet first entry into deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards. Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change direction and position as necessary and swim back crawl for 15 yards. Curriculum and levels are based on the Red Cross' Learn-to-Swim Program. Swim Lessons: Level 5/6AquaticsStroke Refinement & Advanced Options Comfortable in deep water, swims at least 25 yards coordinated: front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Course Content: Develops confidence and improves on Level 4 skills with an emphasis on distance, time and safety. Skills include:diving, treading (5 mins) and sculling, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly, open and flip turns. Exit Skills: Perform a shallow-angle dive in deep water, swim 50 yards, front crawl, and then elementary backstroke for 50 yards with efficient turning styles. Breastroke for 25 yards, change direction, back crawl 25 yards, use turn styles. Submerge 3 - 5 body lengths underwater, return to surface and exit water. Course Content: This level is designed to increase proficiency and build aquatic skills learned in Preschool Levels 1 and 2 by providing additional guidance with increased distances and time. Skills covered in this level include: fully submerging, holding breath for greater amounts of time, rotary breathing, floats, traveling on font and back with combined arm and leg actions and changing directions while swimming. Exit Skills: Step from side, chest deep water, push off from bottom and into a treading/floating position then swim for 5 body lengths to exit water. Move into a back float for 15 seconds, roll to front and then recover to a vertical position. This fun, hands-on workshop takes the mystery out of the process and shows you how to bake amazing bread with a simple, real-life method. Mix your own dough, learn how to care for a starter, and go home with: one loaf of dough to bake the next day, your own starter, and clear, step-by-step instructions to keep baking at home. What to bring: Large mixing bowl Tea towel/kitchen towel Spatula or dough scraper Kitchen scale (if you have one) Note: For best results, sourdough is typically baked in a Dutch oven. The instructor will share alternative baking options during the workshop, but if you’ve been thinking about getting (or borrowing) one, now’s a great time! A minimum 4–5 qt size is ideal.
